What is NYC Local Law 97?
Local Law 97 is part of The Climate Mobilization Act passed by The New York City Council on April 18, 2019. This law aims to reduce New York City’s carbon emissions 40% by 2030, and 80% by 2050. Reporting requirements for buildings over 25,000 square feet start in 2024.
Does My Building Have to comply with this law?
Buildings over 25,000 square feet must be compliant, and generally all buildings subject to the NYC Benchmarking Law are subject to Local Law 97. To see if your building is on NYC’s annual Covered Buildings list click HERE
This law effects approximately 50,000 existing buildings and includes residential, commercial and mixed-use buildings, and even hospitals.
